Getting Started
How do I set up my profile for the first time?
When you launch Crosstrainer for the first time, you will be guided through a simple setup wizard. You will enter your basic physical stats (such as height, weight, age, and activity level) and select your primary fitness goal—whether that is weight loss, muscle gain, or weight maintenance. The app will automatically calculate your suggested daily calorie and macronutrient targets. You can modify these anytime under the Settings tab.
Does Crosstrainer require an account or internet connection?
No account is required. Crosstrainer is a fully offline, local-first app. All your data is stored securely on your device. An internet connection is only needed to search the FatSecret food database or to use the backup/restore feature (Premium).
Which devices and operating systems are supported?
Crosstrainer is fully compatible with Apple iOS (iOS 15.0 or later) and Google Android (Android 8.0 Oreo or later). The interface is fully responsive and optimized for both phone layouts and tablets.
Nutrition Tracking
Where does the food database come from?
Crosstrainer uses the FatSecret Platform API — one of the largest community-maintained food databases in the world, with millions of verified entries including brand-name and restaurant foods.
Can I add custom foods or recipes?
Yes! In the Nutrition tab, you can tap the '+' button in the upper right corner to create custom foods by entering their name, brand, and nutritional content. You can also group multiple ingredients together into a 'Recipe' (such as a morning shake or home-cooked meal) to log them with a single tap in the future.
How do I set my daily calorie and macro targets?
To adjust your targets, navigate to the Goals or Settings section of the app. From there, you can choose to use the automatic calculations based on your physical metrics, or manually enter custom daily targets for calories, protein, carbohydrates, and fats.
Workouts & Cardio
How do I create a custom workout?
Navigate to the Workouts section, tap 'Create Workout', and name your routine. You can then add exercises from our extensive database or create your own custom exercises. Specify the number of sets, target reps, and rest periods, and tap 'Save' to add the workout to your routines list.
How does the GPS run tracker work?
The Run Tracker uses your device's built-in GPS sensor to track outdoor cardio events in real time. When you start a run or cycle, you will be prompted to grant location permission. Background location access is required so the app can continue mapping your path and calculating distance when your screen is locked. Your location data is processed locally on your phone and is never sent to our servers.
Can I log non-GPS cardio like cycling or swimming?
Absolutely. If you train indoors (such as on a treadmill, stationary bike, or elliptical) or participate in sports like swimming or yoga, you can manually log these in the Cardio section. Simply enter the activity type, duration, and estimated calorie burn to keep your training history complete.
Premium & Subscriptions
What's included in Crosstrainer Premium?
Premium unlocks advanced features including cloud backup & restore, advanced progress charting, additional exercise library content, and priority support. See the full list on the Premium Features page.
How do I subscribe or cancel my subscription?
Subscriptions are managed entirely through the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android). To cancel, go to your device's subscription settings and cancel from there. Crosstrainer does not have access to billing information.
How do I restore my Premium purchase on a new device?
Open Crosstrainer, go to Settings → Premium, and tap Restore Purchases. Make sure you are signed in to the same App Store or Google Play account used for the original purchase.
Data & Privacy
Where is my data stored?
All personal health data — workouts, nutrition logs, weight entries, and custom exercises — is stored locally on your device only. We do not transmit or store your health data on our servers. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
How does the backup and restore feature work?
With Crosstrainer Premium, you can back up your local database securely. Backups are encrypted and stored within your private iCloud (iOS) or Google Drive (Android) app-specific folder. If you switch devices or need to reinstall, you can tap 'Restore Purchases' and 'Restore Data' in Settings to retrieve your entire history.
What happens to my data if I uninstall the app?
Because Crosstrainer is a local-first application, uninstalling the app will delete its local database from your device's storage. If you are a Premium user, please perform a manual data backup in Settings before uninstalling, to ensure you can restore your progress.
